Fall Break
This weekend is extended vacation for the public schools they are calling it Fall Break.  School was let out on Friday and this Monday so we did not plan any activities during that time in order that teens could spend time with their families.  We will have Bible Bowl today but that is really the only activity scheduled.  It is good to have some down time considering all the things we have been doing since school started.   From now until February we do not have any out of town trips planned.  It gives us some time to spend with family and friends especially during the holidays.  I never try to plan any activities during the holidays especially Thanksgiving and Christmas.  One exception has been backpacking.  I love backpacking but not alone, so I often invite teens to come along with me on these trips and I try to cover the cost myself for gas and transportation.  That is the reason I cancelled the backpacking trip this weekend because we could not get transportation.    It is great down time for me but sometimes the trip pops up unannounced or unplanned on the calendar because I never know when I will have some time to squeeze in a backpacking trip.  Thanks for working with me, enjoy your fall break!

Washing Feet
This Wednesday we will be washing the feet of the homeless at the Amador health clinic from 2 to 4 p.m.  We wash feet every 3rd Wednesday of the month because we participate in a foot clinic that is hosted by the health clinic.  We have been doing this since October of 2011.  This is was started to help our teens have a better understanding of the homeless in the Las Cruces and it is a great way to serve the city.  Often people talk about how it is like Jesus who washed the disciple’s feet.  I like that because people automatically associate foot washing with Jesus.  We only need a handful of people, but the last two months it has been difficult to find teens that want to wash feet.  It seems to be the same ones over and over.  I think everyone should try it at least once.  One of the drawbacks as been that you must miss half a day of school.  I usually pick up people around 1 to 1:30 p.m.   If you are interested, please keep that in mind.   For me to pick you up from school you must have a written note from your parents and that must be dropped off at the office that morning.  The other
option is to place me on your list of responsible adults that can pick you up from school.  Again, your guardians must put me on the list.  I understand the inconvenience of the time, but it is set up by the Health Clinic and advertised by them.  If you can help this week, please let me know.

Dinner and Movie
This week, the middle school will be meeting at Christopher Rue’s home 2929 Camino Castillo from 6-9 p.m. The van will be running so if you need a ride, be sure to text me or let me know before 5 p.m. I believe the movie that we will be watching is Toy Story 4.  Friday is also Christopher’s birthday so it will be a great time at his house.  If you can participate make plans this coming Friday!  We always have a great time and discuss the movie afterwards to see what major themes speak to us from a Christian perspective.

Fall Festival
We usually do several things at the Fall Festival that I need help with.  One is the Bible Maze.  We turn the high school room into a maze and usually have several teens helping with that.  We will be sitting up the maze the week of the Fall Festival so it is a big project an I could use some help.  Second is puppets.  We do the same show that we did at the fair at the Fall Festival.  So, if you were in puppets at the Fair, we could use your help at the Fall Festival.  We usually do only 2 shows so you can also do other things.   So please sign up so I know you can come and help.  The third thing we do is the dancing skeletons as part of the Hayride.  The Hayride stops and the Skeletons jump up and dance to a song “Them Bones”.  The costumes are little so I can only use 3 smaller people to do the dancing.  Again, if you are interested, please sign up on the bulletin board.

Parents page
Things are slowing down for the rest of the year.  We do not have anymore out of town trips planned until February and there are no plans for spending any money.  So, everyone can take a deep breath.  It seems like since the summer we have been going and going with one event after another.  The events do build relationships, but it can be costly.  Thank you for your support.  We have our regular meetings on Wednesday which seem to be going very well and I appreciate all the parents that have been pitching in and providing food for the group.  We have been averaging over 50 people each week so that is a lot of mouths to feed and it can be expensive.  If you would like to work with someone that really helps cut the cost down.  The sign-up sheets are in the high school room on the bulletin board.  Please stop by and check it out!  God Bless, David
